The Medallion, Dusk

An oval frame with an ornate crest at the top and a small pendant scroll dropping from the base, The Medallion is the shape historically known as a cartouche mirror, built to be looked at as much as looked into.

Of all the frame styles, it is the one that reads most like a piece of jewellery scaled up.

Every Medallion starts as a frame in its original finish, then is completely hand-dressed in fabric: a mix of contemporary weaves and genuinely antique textiles, chosen for pattern and provenance rather than convenience. Individual fabrics may turn up again elsewhere, but never in this particular combination. Once assembled, a Medallion’s mix will not be repeated.

This Dusk edition draws together a contemporary cotton stripe, woven on traditional looms in a herringbone weave, alongside a discontinued velvet whose colour shifts through an unusual multitude of hues.

Muted silks from mills in Britain and France sit against a discontinued cotton-linen blend touched with gold, with a further scatter of cottons woven across the UK and Italy.
